Coping with accidents and illness

The RYA Basic first aid course covers all the usual first aid topics, but from a boating perspective. It provides lots of opportunity for hands-on experience of CPR with our 'Resusci Anne' dummies. Knowing how to deal with cold water shock and hypothermia are also very important when you go boating in our UK waters. Do you know what to do if one of your crew falls overboard? Despite the serious nature of first aid, John aims to make the day a relaxed and enjoyable one for participants.

VHF Radio

Short Range Certificate

The VHF marine radio is an important piece of safety equipment to have onboard and knowing how to use it correctly is crucial for everyone's safety. The Short Range Certificate is the minimum qualification required by law to control a VHF radio whether fixed or handheld. Your operator's licence is then valid for life. 

Your course pack includes the RYA's "VHF Radio Handbook", which we will post to you.

Please note, there is a separate exam & certification fee of £70 payable to the RYA. The final qualifying exam will be held on the same day.

Diesel Engine

Radar Course

Best thing since sliced bread!

This is a great 1-day introduction to RADAR for leisure boaters. It will give you an understanding of how radar is used for both navigation and collision avoidance.

If you're preparing for a Yachtmaster practical exam, you'll need to know about radar as well as all the usual sailing and navigation topics. This 1-day course is a great way to develop your knowledge.

The cost includes a certificate, the RYA Radar book and an RYA Radar Course booklet.
