Basic SkillsRYA Keelboat Level 2
This 2-day course follows on from the knowledge and experience acquired during 'Start Sailing' Level 1 and assumes that every student starting the course has already gained the practical skills and absorbed the background knowledge from that first course. It aims to provide them with the necessary skills to sail without an instructor in light winds.
Practical Topics: How to rig according to weather conditions, the five essentials, more ropework, use of winches, engine checks, picking up a mooring, tidal awareness, anchoring and further practise with sail setting and boat manoeuvres.
Background Theory: How a sail works, tide timetables, springs and neaps, wind against tide, speed over the ground with/against tidal flow, more meteorology, further emergency and safety considerations with particular regard to coastal sailing.
Look at the calendar for "Keelboat" dates, the earlier you book, the more choice you'll have.
