Training Centre Developments

The RYA has recently appointed John to manage their new 'Active Marina Programme' in the North West for 2012. He is working at both Whitehaven and Maryport Marinas, providing training and encouragement to help people in the area get more use out of their boats. More information is available on the RYA website.

John has added a further qualification to his name and is now an RYA powerboat instructor. Deirdre has qualified as a dinghy instructor and also gained her Yachtmaster Offshore qualification this season.

Diesel Bug Alert
The RNLI have issued a warning to all mariners that the diesel bug is on the increase.
EU legislation has increased bio-diesel in our fuel and the diesel bug is having a beanfeast!
The RNLI anticipate more callouts due to engine failure as filters will clog more quickly as the bug thrives.
Reduce the risk of diesel bug:
  • Check there is no water in your fuel
  • Use a fuel additive to kill the diesel bug
  • Always buy good quality diesel
  • Carry spare filters & know how to change them (& bleed the system) at sea
Our next Diesel engine course is on Saturday 24th September.
